After recently going to the Melbourne Zoo we headed to the Werribee Open Range Zoo as my family and I love animals and exploring new places. My family have purchased the yearly zoo pass which entitles us to visit Werribee Open Range Zoo, Melbourne Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary as many times as we want too!!
None of us had been to the Werribee Open Range Zoo so we were all very excited and didn’t really know what it would be like….we soon discovered it was awesome!!
Our day at the Werribee Open Range Zoo
As soon as we walked through the gate we headed to the giraffe bus safari…. this was great as we were driven through the fields and got up very close to the animals which were grazing in their spacious fields.
I loved seeing the giraffes, there were some so close to us and others grazing on trees further back in the field. I also loved seeing the rhinoceros, deer, hippopotamus, bison and camels wandering around their huge enclosed areas, there were moments I forgot I was in a zoo!
After the bus safari we walked around the zoo and checked out the other animals. One of our favourites was the lions, we stood and watched them for ages, one of them climbed up a tree and just sat there proudly whilst looking around. I can’t forget to mention the hippopotamus sisters who were at first lying on the bank of their pond all together and then later we had fun watching them play in the water. I’d never seen hippopotamuses playing together like this except for on television. The way they opened their huge mouths to play fight and then submerge into the water. Cool memories were made that I’ll never forget!!
Werribee Open Range Zoo compared to the Melbourne Zoo
Werribee Open Range Zoo is very different to the Melbourne Zoo; they are both awesome to visit. What we enjoyed about the Werribee Open Range Zoo is the space the animals had to roam, there were lots of play areas for kids to play whilst walking around the zoo and plenty of space to take a picnic and enjoy the environment.
