Heavens Gate at Pura Penataran Agung Lempuyang Temple is an amazing sacred place. Heavens Gate overlooks the biggest volcano in Bali, Agung Volcano. The temple is approximately 1.175meters above sea level. The temple is known as the Mother Temple in Bali as it’s the largest temple. The view from the temple is absolutely amazing even on a cloudy day!!
Our Experience
It has become an extremely popular place to grab an instagram photo. We could see why. We queued for at least an hour to get our instagram shot. Note it is disrespectful to do yoga poses.
The day we went was a rainy day. Our photos were different to some we’d seen as due to the rain we were fortunate to get the reflection of the Heavens Gate in our photos. It truly was a beautiful place and although there were hundreds of people here there was serenity.
The entire experience here is one to treasure. When we were there the place was full of tourists taking their instagram photos whilst locals were visiting to show their respects and pray. This was another cultural experience. Not only was the temple itself an amazing place but witnessing the locals walking around the temple with their blessings are memories never to be forgotten.
Is there a dress code?
To visit the temple you must wear appropriate clothing. A sarong which is the traditional Indonesian clothing is required to be worn regardless if your legs are covered by pants or a dress. Shoulders and legs must be covered.
